MagicBand+ Coming to Disneyland Resort
It has long been anticipated for MagicBands to come to Disneyland! Earlier this year it was announced that MagicBand+ would be joining the Disneyland parks in the Fall of 2022.
Now we have an official release date, as well as all of your questions answered!
In this post, we will cover what MagicBand+ are, where to get them, when they get released, and why they will help make your next Disneyland trip more enjoyable!
What Are MagicBand+?
If you have been to Walt Disney World, then you have heard of MagicBands. MagicBand+ is just the newest version of the MagicBand family.
Still being able to do everything that the original MagicBand is able to do, plus a few more features.
If you aren’t familiar with Walt Disney World’s MagicBands, then let me break it down.
The original MagicBand is wearable technology that makes your trip more convenient. It is worn around your wrist, like a watch, and allows you to do a variety of different things, such as:
- Unlock your Walt Disney World Resort hotel room
- Pay for purchases in the park (with a card on file and PIN set up)
- Link MagicPass Photos
- Link park tickets to make getting into the parks easier
- Easy check-in at Lightning Lane entrances
- Waterproof (no need to worry about water rides!)
MagicBand+ is able to do everything listed above, as well as:
- Color-changing LED lights and haptic Vibrations (during select park experiences)
- Avengers Campus
- “World of Color”
- “Fantasmic!”
- Virtual bounties that are hidden across Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy’s Edge
- Rechargeable (comes with charging cable)
Note that some of the features of MagicBand+ will vary from Walt Disney World and Disneyland. As WDW doesn’t have an Avengers campus, nor do they have “World of Color”.
MagicBand+ Official Release Date
When rumors first started of MagicBands coming to the Disneyland Resort started, there was no time frame given as to when they would be arriving.
Then early last year (2021) there was talk that it would be happening soon. Over the summer of 2022, Disney announced that they would be arriving in the Fall of 2022.
And now that we are nearly halfway through October, we finally have an official release date!
MagicBand+ will be available for all Disneyland guests starting October 26, 2022!! There will be some guests and Cast Members who will be able to purchase MagicBand+ early!
Early Access to MagicBand+
Disney has announced that eligible cast members, Magic Key holders, and Disney Vacation Club members, can be some of the first to purchase the MagicBand+ for the Disneyland Resort.
That’s right, prior to the official launch date of October 26, these groups of guests can purchase their MagicBand+ as early as October 19, 2022.
Guests will need to present a valid photo ID, plus either a valid company-issued ID (for eligible cast members), Disney Vacation Club Membership (for DVC members), or Magic Key passes; in order to purchase their MagicBand+ at select locations prior to launch.

Do you need MagicBands to go to Disneyland?
No, MagicBands+ are not required to go to Disneyland. However, they do really make the experience more enjoyable and allow guests to travel to the parks easier.
Having a MagicBand+ for your Disneyland trip, will allow you to take less things into the park! Which means less things to keep track of when you are in the parks!
Are MagicBand+ Worth It?
YES! Ever since my first trip to Walt Disney World, where I got to experience the magic of MagicBands, I have been anxiously waiting their arrival to the West Coast!
It might seem silly, having a band with everything connected to it, but it is really helpful when at the parks! Making it convenient to have your hotel key card (if staying on resort), tickets, and credit card all linked!
Plus, these MagicBand+ will include interactive features exclusively to certain areas of the parks! And the band is rechargeable, making it a fun accessory for every visit!
I honestly can’t think of a reason not to get one! Especially when you see all of the fun and exciting designs that are available!
Do WDW MagicBands work at Disneyland?
This is a bit of a tricky question. As the answer is both yes and no. Let me explain.
Original MagicBands purchased at or for Walt Disney World will not work at Disneyland.
However, if you already purchased at MagicBand+ for Walt Disney World, then it will work at Disneyland.
Only the ‘+’ bands will be able to work at both parks.
How do I activate my MagicBand?
Activating your MagicBand+ is really easy! Especially since the MagicBand+ are rechargeable, this makes them great for reusable fun!

The Wrap-Up: MagicBands at Disneyland
The highly anticipated MagicBands are making their way to Disneyland this fall. The official release date for the public is October 26, 2022.
With eligible cast members, DVC members, and Magic Key holders, pre-launch purchasing opportunity starting October 19, 2022.
Disney has announced that there will be a variety of different designs available for guests to purchase when the MagicBand+ launches on the 26th of October. This includes a selection of over 18 colors and 5 special Disneyland exclusive designs for guests to enjoy.
