Here is everything that you need to know about the attraction, why there is so much hype for the ride, and what you should know prior to opening day.

TRON Lightcycle Magic Kingdom: Announcement

Disney Guests first heard of TRON Lightcycle coming to Magic Kingdom back in 2017! That’s right, we first heard about this attraction going in at Magic Kingdom over 5 years ago! It isn’t an exaggeration to say that many were thinking that the ride wasn’t going to open.

During the initial announcement of TRON Lightcycle, it was said to be the same attraction that is at Shanghai Disneyland; TRON Lightcycle Power Run.

Over at Shanghai Disneyland, the Power Run attraction is very popular and is a favorite for many local and international Disney and TRON fans.

TRON Lightcycle Magic Kingdom: Opening Date

Disney definitely dropped a few clues the week or so prior to the official announcement, causing so many speculations about when the attraction was actually going to open.

Disney fans went wild when the long-anticipated TRON Lightcycle attraction finally had an opening date announced.

TRON Lightcycly / Run will open at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World on Tuesday, April 4, 2023!

Disney Cast Members will be able to preview the attraction prior to opening. Cast Member preview dates will be between February 6 and March 3, 2023. Cast Members can begin registration for their preview as early as January 30. They will be allowed to bring up to three guests with them for the preview.

Annual Pass holders, and select Disney Vacation Club members, will be able to preview the attraction prior to the official opening date. Annual Pass holders will be able to preview the ride as early as March 4 (just after Cast Member previews).

4 Things to Know About TRON Lightcycle Prior To Opening Day

Here are some important details that are going to be essential to know prior to opening day. This information will help prepare guests for what to expect, and hopefully, be successful in being able to ride TRON Lightcycle on opening day.

1. Virtual Queue for TRON Lightcycle

Yes, there will be a virtual queue for guests who wish to try their luck to get on the attraction. Virtual Queue will be the only way in which guests will be able to experience the attraction. There will NOT be a standby lane available.

There is no date as to when the virtual queue will be lifted for this attraction, which is something to keep in mind when you are planning your trip.

Additionally, only guests who have a valid park ticket, and a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom (for the same day), will be permitted to get a virtual queue for the attraction.

2. Individual Lightning Lane Entry for TRON Lightcycle

Guests who don’t wish to gamble with the virtual queue (or even guests who weren’t so lucky), can always purchase an individual lightning lane ticket for the attraction.

The Lightning lane entry can be purchased through the My Disney Experience App. And must be purchased on the day of the visit to the parks. No purchasing of lightning lane access will be granted prior to the day of the visit.

How much the individual lightning lane access will cost for TRON Lightcycle is currently unknown. Disney does state that the prices of the lighting lane will or can vary by date. There are many rumors that the cost will most likely be around $20/per person, which has been the cost for other high-demand popular attractions at the opening.

Additionally, it is important to know that a valid park ticket and theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom (for the same day) will be needed in order to purchase a Lightning Lane for TRON Lightcycle / Run.

3. Locker System at TRON Lightcycle

Due to the nature of the attraction, guests will not be allowed to have any loose or personal items with them while on the attraction. And there is no place in the seating area for items to go.

Because of this, Disney has lockers for guests to use prior to boarding the attraction. The lock on the locker is paired with the guest’s magic band, allowing only that guest to be able to unlock and get their items.

Have no fear, there will also be a small compartment on the attraction itself which will be able to hold small personal items, such as glasses, cellphones, or wallets. Just in case a guest doesn’t feel comfortable leaving them in the locker.

Note: These lockers will be able to pair with MagicBand, MagicBand+, or ticket media

4. Disney PhotoPass and Video Offerings on TRON

After guests have experienced TRON Lightcycle at Magic Kingdom, they will be able to get an onboard photo and video that is automatically linked to their My Disney Experience account.

This linking happens in one of a few ways:
– Eligible mobile devices that have Bluetooth enabled for their My Disney Experience App, will need to be logged into the app when they board the Lightcycle and stored in the small compartment.
– Guests can wear a MagicBand or MagicBand+ that is linked to a My Disney Experience account

TRON Lightcycle Magic Kingdom: Height Requirement

Given the thrill aspect of this ride, it is no surprise that there is a height requirement to be able to ride. It has just recently been spotted in the park’s signs for the height requirements too.

It is important to know the height requirement prior to going because you won’t want to have a little one be excited to go on the ride and then not be tall enough to go on. Nor do you want to have purchased an individual lightning lane for a child for the attraction when they are too small.

All of the current signs for Height requirements are listed at 48 in / 120 cm. If this changes after the official opening date, then I will note the change.

TRON Lightcycle Magic Kingdom FAQ

There are a lot of questions that have been circling around TRON because the opening of the attraction has been anticipated for years!

Hopefully, I am able to answer all of the questions that you might have, if not, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to answer any specific questions that you might have.

How long is the Tron light cycle ride?

The original TRON attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is a 2-minute ride. It is safe to say that the sister TRON attraction at Magic Kingdom will be able the same length.

Meaning that the ride will be a 2-minute thrill ride for guests to enjoy.

Where is the Tron ride located?

The new TRON Lightcycle ride is located in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. It is set right next to Space Mountain. Specifically, it will be located between Tomorrowland Speedway and Storybook Circus which is in Fantasyland.

Does the Tron ride have a loop?

Even though it will be one of the most intense rides within Magic Kingdom, the TRON attraction does not have any loops or inversions.

But that doesn’t mean that this ride won’t take your breath away and impress the thrill seekers in your group!

How fast does the Disney Tron ride go?

Since the TRON Lightcycle at Magic Kingdom is supposed to clone the same attraction that is at Shanghai Disneyland, then it is safe to say that the ride will reach speeds of 60 mph.

Is Tron Lightcycle scary?

Everyone interprets ‘scary rides’ differently. The TRON Lightcycle ride is advertised as a high-speed motorcycle-style attraction. I would (personally) classify the ride as more of a thrill ride so it could be scary for some.

However, the ride isn’t very long, nor have I heard of any negative comments about the attraction itself.
