Ultimate Guide to Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash [2024]
Looking for the inside scoop of Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland?
I’ve gone to Oogie Boogie Bash every year since it started, and I know what is worth doing and not doing during the event. I have insider intel on exactly how to maximize your time in the parks so you can make the most of your after-dark Halloween event!
Hands down the most popular after-hours event at Disneyland is their Halloween event; Oogie Boogie Bash.
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash replaced Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in 2019, here on the West Coast. Quickly rising in popularity, it is now an event that sells out within a few days.
In this post, we will break down what to expect, ticket cost, food, characters, and more to see why you need to mark your calendars for this event so you don’t miss out.

It should be noted, that since the event was canceled in 2020 (due to obvious reasons), the popularity and demand for the event have increased tremendously. Tickets now sell out within 48 – 72 hours!
The 2023 event tickets sold out within 12 hours of going on sale to the general public!
IF you want to purchase tickets for the event this 2024 season, please, for the love of the mouse, only purchase tickets directly from Disney.
What To Expect at Oogie Boogie Bash
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash is a Halloween-themed after-hours event that takes place at Disney’s California Adventure Park.
The event starts at 6 pm, which means that the park will close early for guests who do not have tickets for the event. And yes, security does go through the park checking everyone and escorting those without a ticket to the park exit.
Pro Tip: Don’t be one of those guests that has to be escorted out. It’s not fun for anyone.
Oogie Boogie Bash ends at 11 pm, which gives event guests five whole hours to explore and enjoy the park.
However, having an after-hours event ticket means that you can enter the park 3 hours prior to the event starting. Guests that wish to really capitalize on the event ticket and park hours, can then enjoy Disney’s California Adventure Park from 3 pm until 11 pm (without a park reservation).

Oogie Boogie Bash Day Options:
When it comes to special event tickets, one question that gets asked by attendees is which park they should explore during the day before the event.
I wish that the answer was simple, but honestly, it really depends on your situation. However, here are some of the top 3 options I would consider if you’re going to Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash.
Keep in mind that the first two options only work if you have a general admission ticket. If you don’t have a general admission ticket to use, then option 3 is your only choice.
Option 1: Full day at DCA
The easiest option is just to spend the whole day in Disney’s California Adventure Park. Get there at opening (or early morning access for Resort Hotel guests), enjoy the whole day in the park, and stay for the event.
If you are going to be in the park for the whole day, around 3 pm, you will want to find a cast member to ask where you can check in for the event. This will allow you to get your goodie bag and wristband without needing to leave the park.

By doing this early you won’t have to remember closer to the event, and won’t have to worry about getting questioned by security.
Option 2: Half Day at Disneyland
Another easy option is to make your park reservation for Disneyland on the day of the event. This will give you from the park opening until 3 pm (if you take advantage of the early entry hours) to enjoy Disneyland.
I would really recommend choosing this option if you have little ones, and have already spent a full day in Disneyland. This gives you more time to see the things you might have missed the first day or to see things that were top favorites to experience one more time.

Option 3: Event Only
The third option is to only go to the event. This is good if you’ve had a morning of shopping or exploring in another part of Anaheim.
If this is what you do, then I recommend getting there at 3 pm (if not a bit sooner to get in line). This way you can capitalize on the full amount of time you are allotted with your ticket.
Even though there are usually shorter wait times during the after-hour events, it does seem to pass rather quickly, with not enough time to see and do everything.
Pro-Tip:
The Oogie Boogie Bash ticket comes with a PhotoPass for the event, allowing guests to get unlimited downloads of photos during the event. However, Disney cannot set up the PhotoPass for just the event time, therefore guests can actually get downloads of all the photos taken for that day!
Oogie Boogie Bash: Characters
A perk to visiting the Disneyland Resort during Halloween is that all your favorite characters are dressed in Halloween costumes. And nearly every year the fab five, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto wear different costumes! Additionally, guests can enjoy seeing a lot of Disney villains walking around the park as well.
To make the Oogie Boogie Bash even better, Disney brings out exclusive characters that you don’t see, other than at these special events. The Evil Queen from Snow White, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and more.
2021 Characters:
For the 2021 Oogie Boogie Bash, there were some awesome exclusive characters. These included Jafar, Robin Hood, Little John, Prince John, Mad Hatter, and Barley (the older brother from Onward), just to name a few.

2022 Characters:
For the 2022 Oogie Boogie Bash, there were some exclusive characters who weren’t there the previous year. These included Emile and Remy from Ratatouille, Ernesto de la Cruz, Madam Mym, and more.

2023 Characters:
For the 2023 Oogie Boogie Bash, there were some really incredible characters that could be spotted around the party. Some of these special characters included Yokai from Big Hero 6, and Judge Doom from Roger Rabbit.
2024 Characters: It will be exciting to see who Disney brings out for the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash! Be sure to check back once the event has started to see which characters are going to be guest appearing!
Oogie Boogie Bash: Parade
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash also has its own special Halloween parade taking place during the event. This special parade, Frightfully Fun Parade, is only for those who are attending the Oogie Boogie Bash.
This parade is usually scheduled to go through the DCA twice, once towards the beginning of the night (around 7 pm), and one later (around 10 pm).
Filled with floats and characters inspired by Nightmare Before Christmas, Hercules, Princess and the Frog, and more. Along with Mickey and Minnie in colorful costumes, this is a special parade just for you!

This parade does walk through the whole park; from the far end of Pixar Pier (near Emotional Whirlwind) to the Guardians of the Galaxy Ride, and goes through Hollywood Blvd.
This means that there is plenty of space to see the parade, with no need to ‘camp out’ in the best spot hours prior to the parade. There are plenty of great spots throughout the whole route.
Parade Pro Tips:
– The first showing is usually more crowded with younger children
– Going toward the end of the parade route typically has the best spots
– The second parade has a higher chance of getting canceled or running late (personal experience).
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash: Tickets
The date of ticket sales for the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash has just been announced to start on June 25, 2024.
With the announcement of ticket sales, it was stated that Oogie Boogie Bash 2024 tickets will first go on sale for Magic Key holders.
The Inspire Key holders will be able to purchase tickets on June 25th, with all other Magic Key holders being able to purchase tickets on June 26th. And tickets open to the general public on June 27th.
The virtual queue waiting room will open up no earlier than 8:45 am on the date of sales, with guests being notified when it is their turn to enter the shop to purchase tickets after 9:00 am.
It is best to set the alarms and plan ahead when it comes to purchasing Oogie Boogie Bash tickets.

They are sold only on a first come first serve basis. Typically tickets sell out quickly!
There will be a limited amount of tickets sold to this event each night, so be sure not to sleep in and miss getting tickets!
Know that the limited number of tickets is not due to any lingering pandemic restrictions, but because Disney tries to offer a less crowded experience for guests during the event.
The prices of tickets varied by what day of the week you choose to attend. For the 2024 Halloween season, tickets will fluctuate between $134 and $189. Last year, the most expensive tickets were the last two nights of Oogie Boogie; October 29th and October 31st.
There is also only one type of admission ticket to the event so there is no difference in cost for children. This is something to keep in mind if you are trying to go to Disneyland around Halloween on a budget. Guests 3 years and older will need a ticket to enter, and it will cost the same price as an adult.

Buying Oogie Boogie Bash Tickets Online
The only way to purchase tickets for Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash is through their online portal. Tickets cannot be purchased over the phone or in person.
When ticket sales start (at 9 am PST), Disney’s online portal puts guests in a virtual queue starting at 8:45 am. The wait time for the virtual queue does vary from person to person, but an approximate wait time is given at the bottom of the virtual queue page.
Pro-Tip: Be ready on the website prior to 9 am! The queue fills up fast and the wait can be long!
Once the wait is over, guests are allowed into the ticket sale storefront. Guests have 15 minutes to purchase their tickets before the site closes or they must enter the virtual queue again.
This might seem a bit extreme, but it is to help ensure that people don’t waste too much time and everyone gets a chance to purchase tickets.

Additionally, there is a ticket purchasing limit. Guests can only purchase a max of 8 tickets per transaction. Remember, tickets are non-transferable!!
There was big speculation as to how truthful the non-transferable part of the ticket was, and people that were caught reselling tickets to Oogie Boogie Bash not only got the resold tickets voided but the tickets that they purchased for themselves also got voided!
Please for the love of all things Disney, do not resell your Oogie Boogie Bash tickets and do not purchase Oogie Boogie Bash tickets from any site other than Disney’s official website!

Be aware that resellers of Oogie Boogie tickets (no matter how real they claim to be) go against Disney’s terms and conditions for purchasing the tickets. Disney has canceled ALL Oogie Boogie tickets bought under accounts when they discovered they resold some tickets they originally bought. This includes canceling Magic Key passes, if the Magic Key holder is caught reselling the tickets!
For the love of all Disney magic, please do NOT purchase any Oogie Boogie tickets from anyone other than directly from Disneyland!
Again, I cannot stress how quickly tickets sell out. Buying tickets online is a whole process too. Definitely not something that I would suggest being spontaneous about.
Disneyland Oogie Boogie: Dates
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash only takes place on select nights in August, September and October. The nights of the event are usually busier park days, so be sure to plan out which dates you want in advance.
If you didn’t notice, this year Oogie Boogie Bash is starting in August! That’s right, Disneyland is starting Oogie Boogie Bash earlier this year because of it’s increase in popularity!
For the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash, the event will take on 27 select nights. From August 25 through October 31, 2024. Most event nights are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash: Halloween Treats
What Disneyland event would be complete without special treats for the occasion?! In addition to the Halloween treats that Disneyland has out for this time of year, there are some additional bonus treats, so keep an eye out for during Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash.
And stay tuned for a 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween Treats Foodie Guide which should be coming out soon!
Oogie Boogie Treat Trails
A Halloween event would not be complete if there wasn’t trick-or-treating. The Treat Trails are designated areas for everyone to go trick-or-treating and see some of their favorite characters.
This is often where you can find the exclusive characters during par of the trails. And don’t think that trick-or-treating is solely for young children, adults are also encouraged to join the line and get the candy and treats that are passed out.

Disney also has allergy-friendly treats for those who have to worry about food allergies. These allergy-friendly options do get passed out at every treat trail, as there are multiple treat spots on one trail.
Villain’s Dessert Party
During the Oogie Boogie Bash, Disney offers a special Dessert Party at Sonoma Terrace. This is a separate special event, an additional ticket, and a reservation that needs to be made for those dessert party guests.
Even though there is an additional fee for the Villain’s Dessert Party, the ticket does also give you access to a special seating area for the Halloween Parade.
Dessert party reservations need to be purchased and booked online. To book this dessert party, use Disneyland’s site here. Additional in-event exclusives like this typically sell out quickly, or the best time slots get taken first.
It is important to note that having a reservation for this exclusive Dessert Party won’t give you access to Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash.
Meaning if you have a Villain’s Dessert Party reservation and no ticket to Oogie Boogie Bash, you will not be allowed to enter the parks and will face the same-day cancelation fees associated with not showing up.
Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash: Costumes
It is encouraged that everyone that attends can dress up if they wish. Yes, this even includes adults! Dressing up for the event is part of what makes this event so much fun!
There are some rules that Disneyland has as far as costumes go. Disney is pretty strict on making sure that these rules are followed. Those who don’t abide by these rules won’t be allowed to attend the event.
For the full list of costume regulations at Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash, check out their official site rules here. I highly recommend dressing up for the event. It helps add to the experience.
Additionally, it is always really cool to see how the characters interact with you because of your costume. The cast member’s ability to stay in character is truly impressive, even when they wear something that is outside of their universe or world.

The Wrap-Up: Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash
Disneyland never holds back when it comes to going all out for Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash.
With more characters to interact with, and more candy to get on the trick-or-treat trails, this is the one after-hours event that you do not want to miss.
The Oogie Boogie Bash takes place in Disney’s California Adventure, and not Disneyland itself. Which guests say this makes it almost better as it is easier to see everything.
Tickets will go on sale for Magic Key holders prior to the general public’s access when ticket sales do become available.
Important things to remember about Oogie Boogie Bash:
- It is an after-hours ticketed event and a separate ticket will need to be purchased for the event
- Costumes strongly encouraged (even for adults)
- Special Halloween-inspired treats will be available during the event
- There are a lot of villains and exclusive characters to interact with
- Trick-o-Treating is available for all guests
- Special Photo Op locations during the event with unlimited Photo Pass downloads for the event
Get excited and mark your calendars, because the Halloween season will be here before you know it and you aren’t going to want to miss this event!
