Six Flags has long held the title of the world’s most thrilling theme parks! With a claim like that, Six Flags is a force to be reckoned with. So where are these thrilling theme parks?

Six Flags locations are all over the United States, and they even have a location or two in Canada and Mexico.

Curious where the closest Six Flags location is to you? This post will break down exactly where the Six Flags locations are so you can find the one closest to you, or work it into your next travel itinerary.

Now if you don’t already know, there are water parks that are called Hurricane Harbor which are also owned and branded under the Six Flags company. The Hurricane Harbor locations will also be included in this post.

In many cases, the Hurricane Harbor location is in close proximity to the Six Flags theme park location (but not always).

Six Flags Locations: U.S., Canada, & Mexico

There are over 27 different thrilling parks and water parks throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico! With all those different parks, let’s take a look at the Six Flags Locations, so you can be sure to check out the closest thrilling adventure.

Six Flags Locations History

The first Six Flags opened in Texas in the year 1961 and has since branched out to 11 different states, in addition to opening up theme parks in Mexico and Canada. So where did it all begin, and what caused the most thrilling company to expand its locations all over North America?

According to Six Flags’ website; it all started in the 1950s when Disneyland first opened its gates, and Angus G. Wynne Jr. visited Disneyland and had a dream to create something more thrilling. He wanted to create something just as great and exciting in his home state of Texas.

Then in 1961, that dream became a reality, and Six Flags Over Texas opened its gates. These parks held an emphasis on family fun and coasters.

Since then, many more theme parks under the Six Flags name have opened and been enjoyed by millions every year.

How Many Six Flags Are There in the US?

There are a total of 25 Six Flag locations in the United States which includes 12 Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (or just Hurricane Harbor) locations.

Some of the Hurricane Harbor locations are next to Six Flags theme parks and include a one-priced ticket to get into both the amusement park and the water park. This isn’t the case for all of them.

Let’s quickly take a look at the Hurricane Harbor locations that are included in Six Flags admissions, and which ones are separate.

Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor Locations: Admission Included

There are a total of 5 different Six Flags locations that have admission to Hurricane Harbor included in their general admission for the theme park. They do this because the ‘Hurricane Harbor’ part of the park is typically within the same property as the Six Flags location.

These Six Flags locations are at Darien Lake in New York, Six Flags Over Georgia in Georgia, Six Flags America in Maryland, Six Flags New England in Massachusetts, and Six Flags St. Louis in Missouri.

Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor Locations: Separate Admission

The following locations will charge a separate admission fee for those who wish to do both Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor. Yes, there are standalone tickets if you wish to only visit one of the parks.

Know that if you wish to visit Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor, you must purchase admission tickets for both. This is because, even though the Hurricane Harbor location is close to Six Flags, they are on separate properties with different entrance gates.

The properties are Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles near Six Flags Magic Mountain; Hurricane Harbor Arlington near Six Flags Over Texas; Hurricane Harbor New Jersey near Six Flags Great Adventure; Hurricane Harbor Oklahoma City near Frontier City; and Hurricane Harbor Chicago near Six Flags Great America.

Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor Locations: Separate Properties

Additionally, Six Flags has a few Hurricane Harbor locations that are considered standalone properties as they are a Hurricane Harbor and don’t have a Six Flags theme park close by.

These separate properties are; Hurricane Harbor Concord in California, Hurricane Harbor Pheonix in Arizona, Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Texas, and Hurricane Harbor Rockford in Illinois.

Additionally, there is a separate property located in Mexico, but more on that one later.

Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor Brief History

This blog post included both Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor locations. And some of you might be wondering, why.

Without going into too many details about the history of Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor, they are currently both owned by the same parent company Premier Parks.

According to Funding Universe, in a Decade Premier Parks had substantial growth by purchasing Six Flags, Water World, and other theme parks that were struggling. This was the start of the Six Flags rebranding of multiple parks.

With this, any water parks that were purchased were rebranded as Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, or just Hurricane Harbor. This allowed consistent branding among all their theme parks.

Many Six Flags locations do have some water rides, however, Hurricane Harbor is an exclusive water park where guests can enjoy only water rides and water attractions. This is important to keep in mind when checking out some of the different locations.

If you are looking to spend the day in a theme park, be sure to make sure that you go to a Six Flags park and not a Hurricane Harbor location. Not to say that Hurricane Harbor locations aren’t fun, but if you’re looking for coasters, Six Flags is what you’re looking for.

Where Are All The Six Flags Located in the US?

Here is a complete list of all the different Six Flags locations within the United States. Again, this includes any Hurricane Harbor parks that are also owned by the Six Flags company.

Hurricane Harbor locations are typically only open during summer months (May through September), whereas Six Flags locations are usually open all year.

If a location has a shorter open season, there will be a note of it.

Six Flag Locations: California

California has a few different Six Flags locations, two of them are amusement parks, and two of them are water parks. There is one water park and amusement park in northern California, and one water and amusement park in southern California.

What’s the difference between Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor?

Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles are right next to each other in southern California. Which can be a bit confusing, if you haven’t done a bit of research.

Magic Mountain, or Six Flags Magic Mountain, is an amusement park where you can ride coasters and a few water slides.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles, also known as just Hurricane Harbor, is a water park where you can enjoy water slides, lazy rivers, and wave pools.

Six Flags Locations: FAQ

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about the different Six Flags locations. If your question isn’t answered here, or you would like trip planning help, please feel free to reach out. You can reach us via email at red@redthetraveler.com.

How many Six Flags are there?

There are a grand total of 27 different locations spread throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

What is the oldest Six Flags park?

The first Six Flags park was built in Texas and still stands today! Six Flags Over Texas was built in 1961 after Angus G. Wynne Jr visited Disneyland. He was then inspired to build an amusement park in his home state.

Where are the biggest Six Flags in America?

The biggest Six Flags is located in Jackson New Jersey, Six Flags Great Adventure! Previously called Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari Park, this theme park is 510 acres making it the largest Six Flags location, and the second-largest theme park in the world (behind Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida).

This Six Flags got its grand size when it bought and combined Great Adventure (which was 160 acres) and Wild Safari Animal Park (which was 350 acres). Together Six Flags rebranded the two parks as one and called it Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari Park for a few years and then rebranded both parks to just be called Six Flags Great Adventure as we know it today.

What are the second biggest Six Flags in the USA?

This is a bit of a tricky question, as there are a lot of Six Flags locations that are very similar in size. Plus, there are a lot of outliers to consider.

Six Flags Darien Lake, located in New York, has a total of 1200 acres. It could be argued that it is the largest, however, the theme park also includes an Indoor water lodge and camping.

Then there is also Six Flags America, located in Maryland. This Six Flags location is 523 acres in size, but the park only utilizes 131 acres!

Tossing those outliers off to the side, the second biggest Six Flags location is Six Flags Great Escape in New York. This Six Flag is 351 acres and a perfect place to enjoy coasters, water slides, and other thrilling attractions!

Which Six Flags has the most coasters?

Looking for the Six Flags location with the most roller coasters? You would need to travel to Southern California to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles California.

This Six Flags has over 20 coasters! If you are a thrill seeker, then this is a must-visit Six Flags location for you.

What is the best Six Flags park?

The title of the Best Six Flags park has long been debated. With over 27 different locations to choose from, it can be rough for one to have the title of the best, as each one offers different coasters and attractions.

Some argue that the best is Six Flags Magic Mountain because it has the most roller coasters in the world. Some would claim that Frontier City in Oklahoma is the best Six Flags location because it has the most unique theming. While others say that Six Flags Over Texas is the best Six Flags because it is the original park that started it all.

Personally, I say that Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is the best Six Flags simply because that is the Six Flags park that I grew up going to the most. It has a wide variety of coasters and other attractions, while also having some fun animal attractions.

Does Illinois have Six Flags?

Yes, Illinois has a Six Flags location in Chicago, Six Flags Great America! This Six Flags is known as the Thrill Capital of the Midwest.

Where is Six Flags in Ohio?

There currently are no Six Flags locations in the state of Ohio. There are a few in Illinois, and other states, but not in Ohio.

The Wrap-Up: Six Flags Locations

There are 27 different Six Flags Locations in U.S.A, Mexico, and Canada. This includes both Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor locations. So whatever you’re in the mood for, a thrilling ride or a water slide, this post can help you find what you need.

Each location offers thrilling family fun that is great for everyone! With some of the world’s best coasters and iconic family-friendly rides, there is bound to be an attraction for everyone. Whether you have a thrill-seeker, a water ride lover, or wish to enjoy some of the other rides, Six Flags locations are for you.

There are currently locations in 11 different states across the United States, one location in Canada, and two in Mexico. Wherever your travels take you there is bound to be a thrilling park you can visit along the way.

Six Flags Magic Mountain holds many records for having some of the wildest coasters, not just in the United States but in the world. This is why hosting your middle school or high school grad night at Six Flags Magic Mountain is a great choice!

Luckily, Six Flags Magic Mountain holds 2 different types of Grad Nites. One for 8th graders (Jr. Grad Nite) that graduate middle school and will be continuing on to high school. And one for high school seniors (Grad Nite).

But don’t worry, each one is held on different nights! This post will break down everything you need to know about each of the Grad Nites held at Magic Mountain. It will start with the Grad Nite, which is dedicated to high school seniors, and then it will cover the Jr. Grad Nite.

Quick Six Flags Grad Night Overview

Grad Nite Information:
Dates: May 17, 23, 31; June 7, 2024
Event Time: 8 pm – 3 am

Jr Grad Nite Information:
Dates: May 10, 24, 2024
Event Time: 6 pm – 12 am (midnight)

Note: In previous years, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (in Vallejo, CA) has also held a Grad Nite for high school seniors. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they are offering it for the class of 2024. If this changes, then I will be sure to have an updated post.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Grad Nite Overview

Six Flags Grad Night is a way for High School Seniors to celebrate graduation. What makes this different than just going to Six Flags for the day is that this is a private event! It is held exclusively every year for graduating seniors.

During the hours of grad night, students can enjoy all of the rides and live entertainment exclusively for them. This private event is only available to those who purchase tickets in advance and register the school through the Six Flags website.

Now, when we say this is a private event, we mean it is a private event! Tickets are unavailable. at the gates, only approved vehicles are allowed into the student drop-off area, and re-entry isn’t allowed once the event has started! This might sound a bit extreme, but it is to help ensure that everyone at the event is safe during the evening. If you are interested in registering for grad nite, you can do so here. But let’s see what is included in Six Flags Magic Mountain Grad Nite and what is different about the two Grad Nites.

What To Expect at Six Flags Grad Nite

Six Flags Grad Nite is an exclusive private event for graduating seniors and chaperones!

Students and chaperones get ‘locked’ into the park for a fun-filled night at Six Flags!

There are many different things for students and chaperones to enjoy, such as live DJs and dance floors. Movies play all night long in the theater.

Plus, there is the option for meet and greets with their favorite Loony Toon and DC Superhero characters.

There will also be souvenirs for students to purchase to commemorate their graduation night celebration at Six Flags.

Students who attend can expect to enjoy hours of Six Flags fun without the out of control crowds of visiting the park during regular public hours.

What’s Included in Six Flags Grad Nite

The event ticket cost includes admission to the private event, access to all coasters and rides throughout the park, live DJs, movies, and more!

For the 2024 graduating seniors, the Six Flags Grad Nite event includes an all-you-can-eat buffet. This is great as the event takes place from 8 pm to 3 am, so the buffet allows students to grab food whenever needed.

The Grad Nite ticket also included live DJs with dance areas, which will also be available for students to enjoy throughout the park. As well as movies throughout the night at the GoldBear Theater.

Students who attend the Six Flags Grad Nite will also receive a digital photo to document their celebration, a souvenir gift, and a 2024 Grad Pass.

A Grad Pass is a special Six Flag seasonal pass that allows attendees to return to the park (on select dates) from their event night until December 29, 2024. Even though the Grad Pass is subject to Black Out dates, and doesn’t apply to other special events, it still allows returning on more than 100 different dates.

Chaperones who attend the event can expect a buffet of food and snacks available for a few hours throughout the night. As well as a chaperone lounge to relax during the night.

Cost of Six Flags Magic Mountain Grad Night

There is no specific set cost on Six Flags Magic Mountain’s website giving the information for the Grad Night.

There is a link for you to request further information, which will probably give you the cost of the event. However, that information isn’t very public.

I did find the Grad Night flyer from a local High School near Six Flags Magic Mountain, the cost that they had listed was $150 per senior student. However, that cost may also include transportation costs and not just the cost of the event, so take that information with a grain of salt.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Grad Night Dates

Unlike Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Six Flags Magic Mountain hosts many more dates for the grads! However, there still aren’t a lot of dates, so be sure to act fast before the dates sell out.

Grad Night at Six Flags Magic Mountain for 2024 will take place on the following dates:
Friday, May 17
Thursday, May 23
Friday, May 31
Friday, June 7

Again, dates usually sell quickly, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as you can!

Six Flags Jr. Grad Nite

For middle schoolers looking to celebrate their accomplishments, Six Flags Magic Mountain offers a Jr. Grad Nite! This event is very similar to the high schoolers’ grad nite, but also very different.

At Jr. Grad Nite, if desired, students and chaperones can enjoy the park during general park hours (10:30 am – 6 pm) and then enjoy their own private event from 6 pm until midnight!

What To Expect At Six Flags Jr Grad Nite

Depending on when your school shows up, it will determine what you can expect!

But at the very least, you can expect to have the whole Magic Mountian park closed off to the general public, with only graduating middle schoolers and chaperones inside.

Shorter wait times for your favorite coasters throughout the park!

As well as dinner options available.

Six Flags Jr Grad Nite Dates

Friday, May 10
Friday, May 24

Six Flags Jr Grad Nite Tickets & Cost

There is no public information on how much Jr Grad Nite costs. However, it does state that full payment is due 21 days prior to the selected date.

Additionally, on the Six Flags Magic Mountain website, they do list that there is a minimum requirement of 15 tickets purchased for the Jr. Grad Nite.

Ticket purchases also include a ticket add-on of a catering option. The catering option includes a meal for each guest. The catering option must be purchased in order to enter their picnic area during the event night too.

It is important to know that all Six Flags Locations are cashless. Only Credit/Debit and mobile payments will be accepted in the park. Most locations do have a cash-to-card kiosk that can be used if needed.

Six Flags Grad Nite FAQ:

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Six Flags Grad Nite event for graduating seniors. If you have any specific questions or need help planning your trip, be sure to reach out via email at red@redthetraveler.com.

What happens at Grad Night?

Six Flags Grad Night is a night solely dedicated to High School Seniors! This is a private event that is not open to the general public. Graduating students (and their chaperones) will have the whole park to enjoy and celebrate.

It is a great way for graduating seniors to have a safe and drug-free environment to celebrate their academic accomplishments.

School registration is required, as tickets to the private event will not be available at the ticket gates.

How long is Grad Nite?

The length of Grad Nite depends on which Six Flags location you are attending.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom’s Grad Night is from 9 pm to 3 am. That means 6 hours of fun!

Six Flags Magic Kingdom’s Grad Night is from 9 pm to 4 am. This means 7 hours of fun!

Regardless of which park’s grad night you attend, there is enough time for students to make some great memories and have a fun-filled night.

What time can the group show up at Six Flags?

Guests for Grad Nite can show up at 6:30 pm. If guests show up earlier, they will be subject to parking fees. The gates for Grad Nite don’t open until 8 pm.

The Wrap-Up: Six Flags Magic Mountain Grad Nite

Six Flags is another theme park that offers a private event just for graduating middle and high schoolers called Six Flags Grad Nite. Offering a private event with thrilling coasters, live entertainment, and all-you-can-eat buffets* for students to enjoy!

Only Six Flags Magic Mountain is offering a Grad Nite for 2024. However, they did start to offer a Jr. Grad Nite this year for middle schoolers.

Each event is only available for a few select nights in May and June. If you’re interested in having your school participate in the Six Flags Grad Nite, I recommend registering with Six Flags sooner rather then later to secure tickets!

Students that attend the Grad Nite can expect to enjoy at least 6 hours of a private event in the park! In addition to shorter wait times, guests can enjoy live music, food options, and character meet and greets!

High School Seniors that attend the Grad Nite, will all receive a 2024 Grad Pass, which is a special seasonal pass for those students. It allows them to return to Six Flags Magic Mountain from the night of their event until December 29, 2024 (some black out dates apply).
